TN: week without anything exciting, though a few good wines

The 2014 Huet "Clos du Bourg" Vouvray Sec was surprisingly muted, but goo d acids under the hints of peach,. wax, and wool. This was hard to judge, a nd at a friend's house so hard to revisit. I though for a second I got a li ttle hint of TCA, but I often get false notes on Chenin. A grudging B

Grilled some squash , plus some portabellos, topped latter with feta and ye llow tomato. Plus broccoli rabe and a couscous/quinoa dish. The 2014 Lucien Crochet Sancerre Rose was snappy and happy, bright red fruit and a mineral finish. B++

With hot dogs, broccoli with roasted peppers.,& grilled fennel, the 2009 D onnhoff Oberhauser Leistenberg Kabinett. Sweeter and softer than I remember ed, a touch quiet at first. opens with air. Gets more complex, balanced, ne rvier. B+

Lamb meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce and salad, and the 2011 Felsina Chia nti Classico. This has tannin and could use some time, but pretty classic pr ofile of black cherry and saddle leather, and Betsy likes it. B+/B

With teriyaki salmon, brown rice with furikake, Asian styled mustard greens , and edamame (a friend gave Betsy a stalk, first time she's cooked the bea ns and kombu herself), the 2014 WAlter Scott Pinot Noir. I've liked this be fore, but this had a little spritzy edge, and was sharp and disjointed. Str ange. C+

A beloved neighbor who recently moved away was back for a visit, and we joi ned dinner at another neighbors. Salmon, Israeli couscous with tomato, aspa ragus, and roasted root vegetables

2004 Patz & Hall "Hyde" Chardonnay Nice acids for Cal Chard, some oak, some pear. But there is the beginning o f oxidation- this is more advanced than a bottle this spring. B-/C+ (others liked better)

2008 Il Greppi Greppicante Fairly plush, midmodern, ripe and easy to drink B-/B

Kris Pinot Grigio Light, maybe approaching dilute, but nice fruit (neglected to note vintage) B-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a p arty where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivi ty, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Maybe it was an off bottle as suggested, because I had this wine earlier in the year (at a tasting with friends) and it was excellent and full of expression. Two more bottles to go, though not in a rush.

The 2010 Clos du Bourg sec this evening was very good, as rich as the moelleux, and certainly still has time.
