bottle caps

Im disallusioned about the very, very narrow range of caps available to the home wine maker here in the UK. I took a look around in the supermarkets and viewed the huge range of caps that bottlers use. I know that some are personalised to the vineyard/company but there must be somewhere that I can buy a stock of something different thats available to me already?

McKevvy,

Are you talking about corks or caps?

Corks or caps? How can you look at a line of bottled wine and see the corks?

CAPS.

Pretty easily. My bottles are stored on their sides, with the corked ends pointing out. The first thing you see is the end of the cork.

I presume we're not talking about crown caps here (the metal closure crimped on, commonly used for beer bottles). Are we talking about the colored, usually plastic things placed over the corked end of the bottle to make it look finished / pretty? The ones I've seen marketed to home winemakers are heat shrinkable, and are available in a pretty wide variety of colors, patterns, etc. in North America. I don't know what's available in the UK, but there are bound to be plenty of online merchants in the US that would be happy to sell you some of these. They are so light that shipping for several hundred of them shouldn't cost much.
