$3M cleanup OK'd to aid Sam Adams brewery expansion

The city of Cincinnati will receive a $3 million state grant to buy, clean up and demolish several West End properties to make way for an expansion of the Sam Adams brewery. The expansion is a $4 million project, with most of the cost, about $3 million, for cleaning up soil and ground water contaminated by dry cleaning chemicals believed to be from a chemical wholesaler operating there. In an unusual agreement, the city has agreed to buy the property while it is being cleaned up, with Boston Beer, owner of the brewery, making payments to the city during the clean-up and then taking ownership once it's complete.
