If I was going to give an investment as a gift then I would do it directly through a broker or bank. But I guess the point of places like the stock site you listed or The International Star Registry are really more a way to have fun. Who knows, that single share 50 years from now could be worth a lot after splits. A Co-worker has a framed certificate for the Green Bay Packers that it really nothing more than interesting wall art.
