Guinness on Tap

Loading thread data ...

It certainly is a session beer, clocking in at a mere 4.1%abv or somewhere in that neighborhood. It can be hard to find pubs that treat Guinness right, so I don't even bother with it normally. There is a place in Dallas called the Cock & Bull where the owner simply obsesses about his Guinness. He's got tanks with different beer gas formulations at different pressures all hooked up to his kegs, he's got thermometers everywhere in his cooler to make sure the temp is just right. He bought some kind of expensive glass washing machine so he wouldn't have to use a harsh detergent on his glassware and leave a residue. I must admit, it is some of the best Guinness I've had, but still kind of boring if you ask me. The only flavor I really get from Guinness is a slight roasted barley with some astringency. Sure it's creamy and all and there is some allure - but ... I think I would rather have the Rogue Shakespeare on tap, or even Murphy's.

I wouldn't mind something wicked stronger, but in Huntsvegas Alabamie, Guinness' foreign-ness makes it akin to coming from the moon or something. No one was even drinking anything but liquor...
