So, tell me something, Claude. There's a little phrase printed - in Dutch - on the receipt that you get when you purchase those precious crates. It says, very plainly, that those beers are NOT TO BE RESOLD. It comprises a simple legal contract between you and the monastery's brewery that you will purchase those beers for your own consumption only, and will not profit from their purchase by selling them to others.

Does this rule somehow not apply to you? There are many other good Belgian beers that might not be easy to find in the UK, and aren't sold with the same conditions applied as is the case with Westvleteren. Wouldn't it be more honest to do the right thing instead?

Don, my friend, there's something you ought to know about us Belgians by now. A rule is there for others, not for ourself. A rule is for the official instances, not for the individual. That is the quintessential rule of Belgicanism. ;^}JPP

Gotta tell ya, though, that "rules apply to everyone else except me" thing sure seems a lot like how things are done in the USA. Maybe that's why I feel so "at home" in Belgium.
