I wish that CAMRA would make up its mind

Indeed Steven, and there is much in what you write, BUT... The main driving force behind the success or otherwise of a pub is price. There is one chain which has seen phenomenal growth, it's jdw's and it's mainly down to price. One is opening shortly in Skipton, I expect to see other pubs hit hard when it does, and I hope my favourite Skipton pub (The Narrowboat) will survive it. But common sense dictates that if 6/week are closing it can't be because they're all bad licensees, otherwise 6/week would be opening by good licensees to counterbalance it!

Tea makers by any chance? I have an aunt (all of 2 years older than me) who worked for them and didn't like the slavery.

Sadly I don't think there that many good licensees available to open new pubs. The last few decades brought a lot of spanner weilding people into the trade who thought of beer as simply containerised drink, pubs as "retail sales consumption locations" and customers as "end users"

I would say yes, but that may be a slur on a company who might well produce very acceptable tea:-) But you are correct.

The alternative to a flexible system is an inflexible one that HAS to be defined. You can't have it both ways.

100% with you.

Perfect.
