Price of a Pint

As I understand it, Managers of Wetherspoons outlets are permitted to buy in beers from any brewery within a 15 (IIRC) mile radius. This would account for the presence of beers from local micros on their bars.

My local occasionally has 3Rivers beers on the bar. I have to say I find them not particularly to my own personal taste.

It certainly did for one microbrewer of my acquaintance - caused health problems while filling his bank balance. Understandably he sold the brewery before it did him and his wife any further damage.

Or scoopgen at Yahoo! groups. I agree that it's rather like real ale train spotting. ;-)

I can now see why he has not introduced them to my local. They are a bit on the strong side for passing trade.

well, there is a few at 3.8, 4.0, 4.1 & 4.2 - not serious 'falling down' strength? (though the figgy pudding one is a bit potent) MikeMcG

sorry to hear it do his health any good, I can imagine why.

on the subject of how much beer a big 'Spoons order might be - funny what you find on the net . . . from

"October 25, 2007: A successful national distribution trial, encouraging customer feedback and positive recommendations from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) have helped earn 3 Rivers brewery's Murphy's Law (4.5%) a place alongside more well-known beers in next week's Wetherspoon Beer Festival.

First brewed in 2006, at the request of a local landlord looking to offer customers an interesting guest beer, the occasionally produced, russet amber-coloured beer has a noticeable bitterness on the palate and is one of Reddish brewery 3 Rivers' less well-known but most highly regarded ales.

Its listing in the Wetherspoon Beer Festival programme has meant an initial order equivalent to almost 13,000 pints." >

the rumour is that the beer is named after the local 'Spoons area manager. cheers MikeMcG
