Hi

I quite often drink in my local real ale bar with my local priest. He has forgotten more about homebrewing than I will ever know, his knowledge of brewing is very impressive!!!

In fact - rather oddly considering I am 200% an atheist - I have propped a bar up with quite a few priests in my time; religion rarely (if ever) being discussed!!!!

Regards P.S. Mind you, although my local vicar enjoys a drink, I don't think he is all that keen on spam!!!

Actually Jesus was a wine drinker. He had no problem with his apostles drinking wine. You need to put your believes and faith in the proper perspective.

If you were a Christian, you wouldn't try to put your opinions into Jesus' mouth. Since you don't fear offending God, it follows that you are not a believer.

Given that beer was invented some thousands of years before Christ walked the earth, and Jesus was a peasant with limited means - he probably sipped a brew from time to time. Beer, like bread, was "the staff of life."

Beer and wine were often made in the same buildings - Metropolitan Museum in NYC has an Egyptian burial model showing the beer/bread operations.

I figure the religious aristocracy rewrote the new testament substituting wine for beer. Beer being the peasant's drink and wine being a more fitting libation for the ruler of the universe (not to mention the self serving aristocracy).

Like Clinton - "but I never swallowed any . . ."

Hi

Further to my previous post in this thread, I call my home brewery "Apocalypse brewery" and my beers "Armageddon" ales.

I normally brew 4 different ales - Death, War, Pestilence and Mild.

Regards P.S. Obviously, Death comes in a pale bottle.

Death Pale Ale. It's got a certain ring to it. Could make a killing!

Or a slightly subtler version: Pale Horse Ale...?

That could be taken two ways, both somewhat funny. Karl

I'm assuming that the Death Pale Ale is a high alcohol brew....

Has an interesting ring to it. ;)

there a good suggestion for a beer make a light beer and then add piss and vinegar and call it put a label on it that states 0 calories 0 carbs all natural with a heavenly taste and call it Moral majority ale then it would be true to it name as the moral majority is made of a small minority of the USA who are filled with piss and vinegar and present a front of being a good Christian but when looking close often go against the word of god as last time I read the bible it stated who is with out sin cast the first stone and many of the so called moral majority forget this way to often when they slam other people

Ok, it is a common misconseption that Jesus drank wine. If you look at the area's of the world where Jesus lived and ministered to, they do not have vinyards. They do however have fields and grains. It is clearly documented that beer was present.

There is one word in the bible that reflected alcholic beverages. One word for all alchoholic beverages. Many people use the english translation as wine.

Cutting to the chase, Jesus drank beer. Probably no hops in it and possibly a barley wine which is still for the purposes of debate, BEER!

I'm not sure where you got this information from. I've had some very good Israeli wine. And although winegrowing is not a huge industry in modern times, vineyards certainly flourished at the time of Jesus.

What I lack in accuracy I gain in enthusiasm. Actually I found the information on the web but I would freely admit that it was not a peer review source.

I do however like the idea of Jesus drinking beer.
