canadian whisky

I'm not sophisticated enough to know from sherry, but that Aberlour a'bunadh is sure one delightful dram, although I will admit to adding a drop or two of branch water.

I would also add Glenfarclas 105 to that. Another cask strength sherry monster.

There's no shame in adding water to whisky. It's one of those misconceptions that really winds me up sometimes :-)

Bob, your comments might be more helpful, if that's your goal, if you'd include a bit of what/who you are responding to, as in this example. Without context, your answers are puzzling.

Just trying to help -take this as intended, or not, your choice of course.

i was answering some1 that says i'm just ramblining on..ok ty i'm really just making conversation.. n bouncing off ideas about whisky..even thou i know 0 about whisky. but i figure if bv reserve almost as good as other well know brands at less price.1/2 price in some cases....i'm ok. even thou its all just amatter of taste. but i'm thinking this bv/reserve might be the best deal in whiskys ill see the remainer of my life. at $10 ea. you cant get any blended whisky over 4 yrs old aged in oak..if not 3yrs...at near that price. but some of you cant understand i'm not comparing canadian whisky to scottish or upper priced whiskys... if anything i'm comparing bv/reserve to the low end scottish. n its still alot cheaper.. i'm still stuck as far if i should buy more bv/reserve..the more i buy the more i save.....lol n that address i gave you has alot of prices..close to where ill buy it....jim beam 1.75l $25.....2 of my 750 bv/reserve would be $20.... but jb aged 4yrs to bv/reserve 8yrs... i think its was jb at $25.

Bob,

There is nothing wrong with Black Velvet if you like it. It's even better if you are saving money while enjoying it. I often buy several bottles of a whisky when I think I'm saving significant $. I bought 3 bottles of Old Grandad for $6.00 each, thinking if I didn't like it I would use it for mixing or give it as gifts to people that do like it. As it turns out, it was a great price and the whisky was not bad at all. So...load up anytime you find your brand at a good price, it only makes sense.

If you are looking for whiskey that is usually easy on the wallet (bang for the buck) may I suggest;

Buffalo Trace 45% Jim Beam Black 8 year old 43% George Dickel #12 45% Joshua Brooks 8 year old 45% Old Bardstown 10 year old 50.5% Rebel Yell 40% Old Forester 45% Old Forester Signature 50% Old Grand Dad 43% Ezra Brooks 45% Evan Williams Black label 43% Old Charter 12 year old black label 45% Very Old Barton 6 year old 50% Fighting Cock 6 year old 51.5% W.L. Weller 7 year old 45% W.L. Weller Antique 7 year old 53.5% Ancient Age 6 year old 45% (hard to find usually in the 40% ABV)

Some more expensive whiskey (but fine tasting to me)

Jack Daniels Single Barrel 45% Gentleman Jack 40% Blanton's Single Barrel 46.5% Elijah Craig 12 year old 47% Elijah Craig 18 year old 45% Eagle Rare Single Barrel 10 year old 45% Knob Creek 9 years old 50% Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select 45.2% Bulleit Bourbon Frontier Whiskey 45%

There are many more but no sense trying to buy and taste them all this week. You do have the rest of your life after all.

I'm hoping this answers the mail and gets us going in the right direction where we can discuss whisk(e)y at any price without anybody suffering a fatal wound or incapacitating injury. I still remember spending a year in the desert hunting bad guys wishing I had a bottle of whisk(e)y from any distiller at any price. I would have gladly quaffed a bottle of Black Velvet and thanked you kindly for the privilege. That said, I guess it all boils down to how much you want that bottle.

Regards to all,

Daniel

I concur with the Abelour a'bunadh which does vary slightly from batch to batch. I have Batch #16, and 17 is also out in the states. It beats Macallan 12 and the NAS cask with more complexity. Perhaps a bit of cinnamon or cloves added to the sherry. A lovely malt.
