Hi, found a new site.
Well worth a look, quite a good selection.

Well worth a look, quite a good selection.
Nice site, but with the worthless US$....

"found"? Pardon my jadedness, but so often, we see posts like this from people who actually run the sites they're claiming to have "found". Could you be so kind as to describe what, if any, relationship you have with the site?
Or, anyone who is interested could go to the site and judge for themselves; then, the OP's relationship to the site is irrelevant.

Well, not really. If, let's say, some guy puts up a site, and pretends he "found" it, that says enough to me about his character as I need to know. If instead, someone puts up a site and says "Hey guys, I put up a site", then they're presenting with honesty. The "Look what I found" ploy is older than Usenet, shills have been around a very long time and are, to me, an immediate reason to avoid that which is being shilled.
Not saying this is the case here, but when an obvious pseudonym uses a tactic frequently used by the shadier elements, it sets up a few red flags for me. Hence my question. Maybe he will return and respond.
I'll call in and ask, I'll be in Grantown later today.
Uzytkownik napisal:
Sorry to be picky, but being in the whisky business _and_ living on Speyside, shouldn't you know that there is no such whisky as Royal LochnagEr? When I last visited the distillery, all the lables in their shop spelt LochnagAr...

Using the oldest shilling tactic in the world, and assuming we wouldn't recognize it, is rather insulting to our intelligence. I suggest you find someone else to come up with your marketing strategies; your own ideas in this regard, suck. The only thing you accomplished here is to let us know that you're not completely honest with us. For me, that's all I need to know.
yes, maybe i shoould have been more honest. didn't think it really mattered. All that mattered was to let whisky lovers know it's there. No need to be rude and anal.
Dave H> > > Yeh, ok, i admit it. I built the site. But hence me to try and
All i did was let a whisky group know the site was there for you to take a look and see if you fancy anything. Being rude about my wording says alot about your character.
Dave H> > > Yeh, ok, i admit it. I built the site. But hence me to try and
Actually, it does not. According to most USEnet newsgroup charters, commercial ads -- in which category your posting falls -- are only permitted rarely, if at all, and with condition of full disclosure of the poster's relation to the venture. Your action warrants the traditional USEnet verbal lambasting.
You intentionally posted what appeared to be a third-party opinion of your own commercial site, which most people view as inappropriate, hostile behavior. So it is highly unlikely that you will realize any business whatsoever from the [at least relative] whisky experts in this newsgroup and their acquaintances.

A couple things.
(see previous re: top-posting) To be clear, I am not being critical of your _wording_, I am being critical of your dishonest tactic. The wording doesn't enter into it.
found verb founded, founding To start or establish (an organization, institution, city, etc), often with a provision for future funding. Thesaurus: start, create, establish, originate, inaugurate, organize, set up, initiate, settle.
Technically, it seems, you told the truth (half a point) :>
And I have NEVER seen a poster admit misrepresentation before. (2 points)
But this is a small, cozy newsgroup, and to call esteemed and valued individuals rude and anal, from the perspective of other newsgroup regulars, will appear very bad form ... and bad business? :0) (Negative seven)
Ah, so it was a grammar error rather than someone insulting our intelligence. I apologize to the spammer in question, I had no idea.
Once in a while they do. Usually followed by "just hit the delete key if you don't like it", "It's not spam because (insert justification here; often "it's on topic")", or similar.
I don't have a problem with being described as such by a spammer, but yeah, his marketing strategy needs work.
Being dishonest about your intentions says quite a bit about your own.

In the world I live in honesty is regarded as essential for businessmen (unless they're in marketing of Microsoft, of course). Which obviously rules you out, then.

It does need work, i just don't understand why everyone got so hot under the collar. It's actually a very nice site and i'm sure you'd enjoy it.
And spammer? a bit harsh.
