When I was young I preferred French wines. California wines were sweeter and I couldn't drink anything but the driest wines. (I've been told that most 'novice' wine drinkers tend to go for the sweet wines, so I guess I'm a wine freak.) My favorites were Graves, both red and white. My favorite was a white Graves, but it was hard to come by where I lived and very expensive. When I finally found one and splurged on it, it was exquisite!

I didn't have a white Graves again for many years but when I finally found one I was disappointed. It wasn't nearly as good as the first one. Sigh!

Anyway, it seems my tastes changed - don't know why or how. When I was young I couldn't stand Reislings and Mosels. Now, they (the real German ones, that is) are my favorites. There are also some lovely California Merlots I love.

I can tolerate slightly sweet wines now, as long as they are light and fruity. Probably my favorites these days are Mosels and Reislings. But I still like a nice dry but fruity red. I've had lovely wines from California and many of the other states.

I also now have a love for fruit wines, cherry being one of my favorites along with blueberry, raspberry, and others. I have had lovely ones from Vermont and Pennsylvania.

I don't like Yellowtail either, but as far as I'm concerned it's not so terrible that anyone need be afraid of trying it.

California. Because I live here. I believe in buying local products. That wouldn't be true for wine in some other places, but California has a pretty good reputation for wine, and the prices are pretty good.

We had a meal at my church. The rule was that everything had to be grown within 50 miles of the church. It was a bit of a challenge, especially for wheat flour, but it was interesting. I'm not that much of a fanatic for local stuff, but it makes sense for me, for wine.

So what did you bring? I'm assuming it was a potluck thing?
