Stone Imperial Stout

Big.....very big body! At 9.47% abv(they' re going into 100ths?? Cheeky) I kind of expected it to overwhelm me a bit but it is nicely done. All sorts of flavours tickling my palate. I just had to read their (in)famous label(s).. oh yes, anise, black currants, coffee...OK. I BELIEVE you!

Bottom line, this is one hell of a Stout. I bought my first 2 bottles. They won't be my last 2 bottles. Cheers!

Best regards, Bill

PS: The only brew from my shipment that I haven't tried yet....the George Gale Millennium Brew(2000)

Post script. I had a Pine Mt. Pils right after finishing the Stone IS. Not the way to go but it can be invaluable in determining how good a lighter bodied brew fares in the overall scheme of things. Bottom line, the Pils STILL tasted good. A big pat on the back for Deschutes!

Best regards, Bill

Yes, it's a very "big" beer. I love it. I was introduced to their IS by my neighbor, who made a trip down to the brewery and bought 3 bombers of anything available. He gave me 2 bombers of IS after trying the 1st and declaring it "undrinkable" and "quite possibly the worst beer in the world". He was flabbergasted when I later told him how much I liked it. Sippin' one right now :-). Jim

Elwood Blues: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses. Jake Blues: Hit it!

almost too big I think(at least when fresh), and I'm a fan of big Stone beers(especially the 4th and 5th IPAs and the Double Bastard). I've tried fresh Stone IS against a number of other Imp Stouts and was not that impressed. Give it about a year in the bottle however and its a different story. The alcohol and harsh coffeeish flavors mellow out a bit and it becomes a very good beer.

Anybody else try the Stone 7th Anniversary? Better than I expected but only GOOD IMHO.

Stone Impy, to use the technical term, rocks. I could take it via IV and be happy. Have half a dozen from last year, just may have to crack one to see how it's aged.

It's probably my favorite of the Stone beers.
