As we enter bock beer season, one of my favorite times of the year, I'm delighted to report the availability of Einbecker Ur-Bock Dunkel ($8.50 a six-pack at local merchants). This is the original "traditional bock" upon which every other variation of bock beer is based. Rich, malty, complex and highly drinkable as well, it's a true German classic. Buying tip: Because it's in a green bottle, don't buy it from a display case too close to a bright light. The flavor of a light-struck beer isn't good.
