Hallo !

Here in Germany is the name for limonade + beer = Radler. The name of cola + beer = Diesel.

Here in the US, we use the same name for both of them =mistake (Hey, did the bartender forget his glasses again?).

In the US, one can buy Stiegl's (Austrian brewery) version of the Radler-- premixed lemon and lager. Though I prefer my beer undiluted, it's not nearly as bad as it sounds.

Oh, yeah? Never saw it. The ones I see a lot are the various Carib Shandies. I never had any of them- I tried a few beer "mixed drinks" recipes, back when the book "All About Beer" came out in the early 70's (one of the first "beer books" in the US and, no, it wasn't "all" that informative) and didn't care for the concept. (Altho' IIRC, what the Europeans calls "lemonade" is closer to our "7 Up").

Though

Well, I really shouldn't talk since I did once develop a taste for the "beer bloody Mary" as made with "Clamato" juice. I still keep the cans around for a glass every 6 months or so (I think I like the saltiness of it mostly) and had to break it out for the recent "LongShot" Boysenberry Wheat from Sam Adams. And even that couldn't kill the overpowing berry flavor- real or not- it was too much for me. But the BA and RB types seem to love the stuff, so who am I to say...

I'll be trying that one one of these days. I picked up a six-pack of the Longshot beers due to good reviews on the other two offerings. The Dort was really nice, and the Old Ale was pretty good, too-- I would prefer a bit less sweetness, but the flavor and body were killer. Not sure I'm looking forward to that boysenberry wheat.

You oughta try a Michelada, made with something like Dos Equis or Bohemia (or just about any other Mexican lager, really). Goes will with a nice platter of carnitas or carne asada.

Some snob you are.

**Heh, one of my favorite beery memories is of sitting at the bar at 't Brugse Beertje, as a busload of Brits (elderly) came trampnig in. Daisy called out from behind the bar as they filed by, "No lagers(sh), no lemons(sh), no shandies(sh)." Sure enough, some fine old lady was at the bar later wondering how she ended up with Kriek, when she'd ordered a "sherry".

I never had any of them- I tried a few beer "mixed drinks"

"Limonade" is 7 Up/Sprite/etc. Lemonade...not sure it actually exists. I forget, but I been drinkin' too.

It's not nearly as good as it sounds, either. When I lived in Munich, one of my friends (female) would routinely get Radler when we'd head to the beer gardens. One day, curiosity got the better of me and I tried a sip of hers. Joel's right that it's not as bad as it sounds, as I expected to have to supress the urge to spit it out and didn't. But it's hardly something I'd want to drink, well, ever.

Then again, I tend not to like sweet drinks. And I got much more sweet than I got beer.
