Agreed. That said, I think it takes some time to wind up in the camp of beer refinement. So much of the American beer scene is about brewing bigger and huger, still trying to escape the grasp of sub-flavor-threshold megabrews, so the beer fans tend to follow the same curve. There are more and more brewers trying out refined, subtle lagers and things (or even unrefined lagers, FTM), but it's still a small number when compared to the mainstream. Same with beer geeks and raters and reviewers. Small numbers appreciate what real lager can be like, others find it dandy, but dismiss it for lack of boldness. Give'em time, Gunth, they'll come around. Not that it's not fun to smakc the young'uns upside the head in a good-natured way about it from time to time. Do it myself on a fairly regular basis.
