ALL BEER IS THE SAME?
I try to keep my criticisms of beer coverage by the mainstream media
civil, especially since at times I'm one of them. But an article posted
yesterday on MSNBC, Will You Drink Beer In A Box?, is so completely
riddled with error and ridiculousness that the gloves are off. Author
James Dlugosch may know stocks and the world of finance, but when it
comes to beer, he's an unmitigated idiot.

THE HOPFATHER: A BEER YOU CAN'T REFUSE
At the Bistro IPA Festival this August, Russian River Brewing debuted
their latest beer: The Hopfather. The Hopfather is a 7% IPA that's
loosely based on an IPA recipe Vinnie Cilurzo contributed to Sam
Calagione's book Extreme Brewing, though Vinnie says he's changed things
up considerably.

BUD LIGHT: WHAT GOES AROUND FINALLY COMES AROUND At last month's beer
summit it was the brew of choice for the leader of the free world,
Barack Obama. It is the best-selling beer in the United States and a
close relative of the world's best-selling beer. Yet, the headlines this
week have been decidedly negative. "How Bud Light lost its sense of
humor-and, subsequently, sales."

TODAY SHOW AGAIN ASKS WINE EXPERT TO EXPLAIN BEER For the second time in
less than a year, the lazy producers at the Today Show had a segment
about beer hosted by someone from Food & Wine magazine. This time it was
Gail Simmons, who's perhaps better known as a judge on the Bravo
television show Top Chef. I've looked over her biography and I can't for
the life of me find any mention of beer whatsoever.

HOMER SIMPSON TO UNCAP GREAT AMERICAN BEER FESTIVAL Homer Simpson is
going to cut the ceremonial opening ribbon at the Great American Beer
Festival? Arming Homer Simpson with a giant pair of scissors at a beer

Festival, September 24-26 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver,
Colorado.
