StarkBier Fest 2013 at the Listermann Brewing Company

NORWOOD, Ohio - There's good news for those who missed Cincinnati Beerfest last month. The Listermann Brewing Company is carrying on the festivities by hosting the StarkBier Fest this weekend that will only feature craft beers from local breweries. The festival carries on the tradition of German monks from the 1700s who brewed nutritional beers that were at least 7.5 percent or higher during Lent when the monks would fast. The breweries include Blank Slate, Fifty West, Christian Morelein, Rock Bottom, Rivertown, Mt. Carmel, Mad Tree, Cellar Dweller, Wiedemann, Quaff Bros, Triple Digit, and Listermann. Some of the breweries are making beers just for the festival, according to the event's Facebook page .

Organizers of the event say the atmosphere will be family friendly with live music and food. Festivities kick off Saturday, March 23 with kegs and eggs starting at

9 a.m. at the Listermann Brewing Company in Norwood. For more information on the event visit
