Fuller's: ahhh!

Hi folks

Well, London's premier indie brewer, Fuller's of Chiswick, have stolen a march on their lacklustre rivals across the Thames by releasing two draught beers that are rarely in-cask.

As Young's continue to ruin their own beers and pubs, Fuller's go from strength to strength. This month sees Honey Dew on draught in their tied houses, and the 29th Sept sees the long-awaited (by me especially) of their superb stout, London Porter. This stout knocks spots off Guinness and Young's Double Chocky.

That'll be on draught for a month before being replaced by another cask rarity:

1845 Ale. This is a strong ale that was originally brewed for Fuller's' 150th anniversary in 1995. It's been in-bottle since then and only makes rare appearances on draught.

To say these two latter beers are rewarding drinking experiences is putting it mildly! That old git John Young will be quaking in his incontinence knickers as the sun starts to set on his Wandsworth empire....

GET SOME DOWN YOU SOON!

Al (not paid by Fuller's but wouldn't mind being so!)

And some Fullers pubs are currently stocking Harviestoun's Bitter and Twisted, however, supplies are very limited.

====Fuller's get Bitter and Twisted

Britain's Champion Beer now available in local pubs

The newly-crowned Champion Beer of Britain - Bitter and Twisted from Scotland's Harviestoun Brewery - is now available in 24 Fuller's managed houses. Fuller's is the only company to have gained direct distribution with Harviestoun.

Bitter and Twisted won the award from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), on August 5, 2003 at the Great British Beer Festival in Olympia and, like previous winners, has seen demand for the product rise suddenly.

This demand was difficult to meet so Fuller's, in its determination to make sure the award-winning product was on sale in its pubs, pulled out all the stops, including sending casks to Clackmannanshire to be filled.

Fuller's Inns' drinks marketing manager Elton Mouna said: "We know that the best real ales in the country are those produced by us - but we think it is important to support quality ales from across the country. We're over the moon to be one of the only places in the South where real ale aficionados can enjoy a pint of Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted."

Bitter and Twisted will be on sale in 24 Fuller's managed pubs during September including the George IV, the Old Pack Horse and Latymers on Hammersmith Road.

Fullers also told us that pubs taking both will be offered draught Golden Pride at Xmas, though my wife forgot to confirm if that applies to the free trade or just their own pubs.

Cool! I remember a good few years ago that they racked Golden Pride (their strong and usually bottled ale) into polypins on the bar for Christmas time. What's the strength of it these days? The bottled version is about 7 or 8%. Not a beer to be trifled with!

Cheers Al

When we last tried it in a pub reputedly only 22 had it. The Barley Mow in Epsom didn't ever seem to advertise that they had any, you had to spot it in the room behind the bar or hope someone told you it was on. Or like one local just paying for his ESB overhear someone (me) ordering it ;)

Superb beer and if none of our local freehouses get it I think we'll be travelling to get some.

So, if I come to UK (London) in november, I am going to find 1845, right? Will it be available in all Fuller's Pub?

No, not all Fullers pubs will stock this beer.

I'm sure if you ring the brewery on +44 (0) 20 8996 2000 nearer the launch date they will be able to tell you where it's on sale.

There's a list on their website at the moment, but I wouldn't rely on it.

The Chiswick and Hammersmith areas both have a fairly high concentration of Fullers pubs, and I'm sure that you will be able to find 1845 on draught somewhere in this area.

The George & Devonshire and Mawson Arms outside Fullers Brewery are bound to have 1845 when it is launched. These pubs are the best for sampling all kinds of Fullers beers.

Thanks to both of you. BTW, have anyone ever visited the brewery? Is it interesting? Can you sample the beers at the end of the tour?
