mailorder polypins for Xmas

Anyone else ordered polypins for xmas?

Had mine delivered yesterday - excellent ale.

Mighty Oak - Mauldon Gold Wickwar - Stout Itchen Valley Father Xmas.

Going to be a party at mine then.

You've still got time to order. Go on, make a brewers Xmas (and no comments about the pain it is, this is xmas after all).

Yes, but I go and collect mine - Cannon Royall - King's Shilling

It means an excuse to sample the good beforehand, particularly the delectable Viceroy IPA.

20 litres of Sheppy's Farmhouse Med/Dry arrived yesterday, sampled (extensively) last night. Highly recommended. Not likely to last until the new year

I have the same prob - Garage about 8 degC, kitchen about 90! Usually keep in the garage and fetch in a 4 pint pitcher, allowing it to warm a little before drinking.

Most small brewers make the most of the sales opportunity and sell them (filled with something interesting) direct from the brewery premises.

Lists of breweries are in the back end of the Good Beer Guide along with the phone numbers.

In our case the nearest is Frankton Bagby who do a rather interesting liquid Christmas Pudding which is far too drinkable to be safe.

Although I could phone Church End and have a mate drop off something as he's passing.

Off on a tangent here, but I once asked in Wetherspoons if they could add a bit of boiling water to a pint of stout they were serving far too cold.

I have a question about the polypins - how long will the beer last?

I mean, if I bought 'enough', it won't be.. and it I buy more than that, there'll be quite a bit left over. Assuming I take it home, let it settle again, what should I expect?

Incidentally, I get mine from Archer's brewery in Swindon. I'm not sure if they deliver, but as its only down the road from Sainsbury's, I don;t care much :) My only problem with them is I've been in there twice this fortnight, and both times they're out of the seasonal ale :(

Cheers.

Check with the nice friendly people in the pub down behind the station for contact details for their brewery (Holdens) or the brewery they usually take deliveries of "guest" from (Bathams) :-)

Oh, and while you're in the Great Western have a beer for me and take notes.[1] (Actually you need a taxi home because there's a few other people probably want you to drink one as a proxy)

[1] I'd be off there as a New Year treat but I'm on call :-(

Cheat and buy a couple of smaller ones. i.e. not poly -*pin* but one of the smaller "beer cube" containers. With sizes down to 17 pints kicking around you're bound to shift the contents while fresh.

The beer will usually last a couple of weeks - though it's never around long enough here to prove or disprove that theory.Itchen Valley almost gone, luckily the Wickwar came and there are no complaints here.

Thanks for the replies guys. I took a friend down to my other local brewery - Warwickshire Beer Company in Cubbington (Leamington Spa). Not only did I nearly get pissed on the 'try some of this one then' from the owner, he said it'd last up to 3 weeks. I've found that the beer does need to be sedimented, and the minipins often come without the bits in (ie. racked). No bits, it'd last 2-3 days before the quality starts to become impaired.
