Brinklow's Wurzel Bush Folk Club starts the new year with a visit from South Wales based acoustic folk duo Huw Chidgey and Catherine Handley on Friday 9 January.
Huw Chidgey was a student at The Lanchester Polytechnic in the early 1980's, he ran the Lanch Poly Folk Club and was a regular performer at many local folk clubs including 'The Wurzel Bush' when it use to meet in the upstairs room of Brinklow's White Lion.
After working for fifteen years in the film industry Huw became a professional musician about five years when he played bass for the Hanky Panky Band on the Irish circuit.
More recently Huw has collaborated with Yorkshire born classical musician Catherine Handley. Catherine was brought up in a musical family in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and learned to play the piano at a very tender age. Taking the flute as her first instrument she studied at the Royal Academy of Music, and after graduating pursued a successful career in the classical world as both performer and teacher. A relative latecomer to the British folk music, scene she brings a polish and a passion with her playing. This passion and her classical sense of disciplined playing combines uniquely with the beautiful Welsh timbre of Huw's voice.
In July 2003 their appearance at Brinklow Folk Weekend was very well received with rapturous audience response. A CD called 'In the Tradition' has just been released. MP3 samples of the album can be downloaded from the website
The evening will be hosted by Dave Sampson who will be joined by the club's residents Newbold. Floorsingers are most welcome.
The event takes place at The Royal British Legion Club, Heath Lane, Brinklow near Rugby. (3 miles from M69/M6 junc 2).
The evening starts at 8-15pm (Doors open at 7-30pm). Admission at the door is £5-00 for Adults, £3-00 for Children. Advance Tickets are on sale from the club's bar or via booking form on the club's website
