I prefer Düsseldorf's alt over Köln's Kölsch, but 19 out of 20 times? Bah. Kölsch is subtle, and there's a lot to be said for the the complexity that goes on there but is not obvious. I'd say it's a more rewarding beer in that regard. Alt is more obvious, and it's wonderful stuff. I do prefer it, but I like having both. I'd be splitting my time far more evenly, especially since they're half an hour apart. Besides, Cologne's a better city than D'dorf.

The guy is only going for two days, and there is plenty to keep a drinker occupied in Cologne for that length of time.
Früh am Dom next to the cathedral and station (if you miss your train, the departure timetables are on the wall in the toilets); Brauhaus Sion, round the corner in Unter Taschenmacher; maybe a couple of the rustic beer-houses in the old town and Alter Markt, certainly Päffgen and Peters there; Malzmühle at Heumarkt (across from the tram stop); Lommerzheim the dilapidated old pub on the right bank (Siegesstr., Deutz); the main Päffgen at Friesenstr.; one or two of the tiny tiled pubs dotted here and there around the city; Heller's Brauhaus, Roonstr.
33; the student bars in Zülpicher Str.; Weiss-Bräu near Barbarossaplatz; on the south side, Früh im Veedel, Chlodwigplatz is a place to lose an afternoon.
Emperor, new clothes. Coors is subtle too.

It's certainly more beautiful, but I found the beerdrinking scene and nightlife in Dusseldorf to be more fun and jovial.
