I went to Montreal on the weekend and heard a few people ordering coffee and identifying it as "the 1.55 size" or the "1.75 size." They seem to have found a way to avoid the "silly talk" from Starbucks.
I don't go to S-bucks that often, and when the counterperson asks me which I like I usually end up looking at the three paper cup sizes and saying something like "medium." But they won't have that, obvious as it might be. They have to say "do you mean a Grande or a Tall?" On a couple of occasions I pointed to one, and the guy says something like, "OK a Grande." It's worse than being in Quebec where you get a hard time for talking English.
