Notes from the hills - Rain, rain, rain and new teas

Hi, it's been raining for 3 days now. Lovely. Over here we all agree that a couple more days of rain should do the trick and then I guess it's time for the real McCoy. Today I bagged some more samples: Castleton FTGFOP1 DJ-1 (the one I reported on earlier was from Springside, Castletons "leaf reserve", the big boy corrected himself today), Castleton FTGFOP DJ-2, interesting aroma, IMO much better than DJ-1 !, Barnesbeg FTGFOP DJ-4 (zzz), some Rohini, Makaibari Vintage (waiting for some hot water). Still waiting for the name of the stuff I sampled yesterday, IMO it' s been the "best" so far. So if you're a fan of DJ FFs, I'd advise you to wait, the best is yet to come. As said before leave those first couple invoices to the numerologists. Updates and short reviews follow as time allows.

How is Makaibari?

Karsten,

Thanks again for your posts. Not only are they a good read, but it's fantastic to have an "embedded" reporter over there! Keep 'em coming.

Dean, thank you for taking your valuable time to read my silly ramblings. (I posted a rely this morning but it got lost due to another blackout, grrr ...) I wish I could post some more of the really interesting stuff happening up here, but some of that would seriously p... some folks off, as I've learned that some local business folks lurk around on rfdt. I also won't name any of those guys I'm working with, as they're too well known and any rumours travel faster than light here in DJ.

I bagged some more samples today (Badamtam and one more unnamed sample). In the morning my friend Mr.R. told me the estate of sample #3, it's Margarets Hope (from mid-skiffed plants) and my favorite so far. I'll be back tonite with some short impressions on that tea, and if time allows the Makaibari Vintage.

Karsten,

Would you care to describe what "mid-skiffing" is? Is it a pruning method or harvesting method, or both?

Dean, it's a different way to prune the plants. It's done in late autumn, sorta "reestablishes" the "plucking table" and results in those strange autumnal-like FFs. I can post some more details later if anyone's interested.

So much for now, Karsten / Darjeeling
