Samples from Upton's

Got a few samples in the mail this week:

ZKP2: Pre-Chingming Golden Black

Wow, this is tippy. This is the tea before the first flush, almost, and it has some of that assam maltiness but mostly it's just got the flavor of the very fine tips. Not much spiciness or floweriness at all. I don't like this but I can understand how someone else might love it.

TK07: Tanzania BP1

This is a CTC process tea, not particularly exciting or distinguished but it makes a nice robust cup and could be a pleasant change from the normal CTC Assams if you like drinking it with milk. I did like it less than Upton's Malawi BOP, though.

I leave the pre-Chingmings for those who appreciate them. The Malawi blew my head off; among the black teas I prefer the Ceylons or Nilgiris. Java black for iced tea. I'm still searching among the greens and whites. Toci

I have to say that it got a lot better when I ignored the recommendations and reduced the steeping time and amount somewhat. But it's still not my thing.

I found my Malawi- I hadn't finished it up, as I thought. I'm going to try it for iced tea- it should work if I add enough water. Toci
