wing hop fung chinatown and monterey park - suggestions?

Hi, all, I am going to be in LA next week and plan to stop at Wing Hop Fung. I'd like to get "a little of this" and "a little of that" for my small tea library. Since I am so new to this and can't spend a fortune, any suggestions would be of help. I anxiously await your input. Thanks so much. (Drinking some Iron Kwan Yin), Shen

i only tried some blacks, my favorites so far:

Yunnan Black Gold Tip Rare : very smooth, yet strong taste,

the Keemun was ok. also a cheap Green tea was so-so, maybe it was old...

I was at the Chinatown store in early August, and tasted (and bought!) a Dancong oolong (#1095). Try it while you're there.

Hello,

My first post here...

I heard the Monterey Park one is a better WHF to go to in terms of selections, but I haven't had the chance to go there yet. I've been to the LA Chinatown one a few times before. It's ok...decent enough tea and accessory selections. The accessories they carry are mostly the "everyday" type...they don't carry many, if at all, luxury accessories. In hindsight, I purchased a "yixing" pot that I now think is a fake. Also expect incessant sales pressure from the sales ladies, especially if you trouble them to brew something for you ("This is good tea, right? Take a pound, ok?").

Enjoy your visit to LA.

Cheers,

Phyll
