Just got this tonight. I can't decide. It is a sherry cask that is rather full, but maybe a little sweet. I like Balvenie doublewood, but this may be a little much. Not that I'm going to dump it... I really do like the 10 yo and thought I'd go the extra $15 for the 15 yo. Guess I'll just have to suffer through...

had the same feelings a while ago with Aberlour 15yo. I mean, I've never been a huge fan of sherried whiskies (unless they are really really good, like a'bunadh, Mortlach 16yo F&F, the good Macallans 18yo of yore, or some independent single cask bottlings), but I found this particular one more than disappointing. Flat, with no depth or complexity. Not that it qualifies for my windshield sprinkler, but you would expect more from a respectable-aged Aberlour.

As it happens, I tried a snifter of this one last night as well. I was going to describe the experience here as 'underwhelming'. I also found no complexity at all. Good, just not _interesting_.
Interesting that the 10 yo is really a better dram. The start of the 15 yo is "narrow" and thin. It does spread out a little in the middle, but it never finds the same depth as the MacAllan or a Glenfarclas. Even the Balvenie DW has more to it. If there is such a thing as a "dessert" single malt, this might be it.
On the other hand, it is almost always true that ANY SMS is better than NO SMS.
