Caol Ila Cask Strength

Got a bottle of Caol Ila cask strength and couldnt wait to open it. It was so dissapointing. I also have a bottle of Chieftains Choice Caol Ila at 46% and by far prefer it to the original Caol Ila CS bottle. Anyone else try this one?

Felt that way about the MacCallan cask Strength as well. The alky is way overpowering neat, and when watered a bit had little flavor or aroma. Howcum??

Really liked the Laphroig Quarter Cash tho. Wish I could get it here in NC.

The original Caol Ila is made for mainstream. Better get a bottle from an independent trader, Cadenhead, Signatory Vintage and others. Or single cask from the Scoth Malt Whisky Society.

I have a Signatory Caol Ila that is very nice, but 46% (15 year old) and a SMWA bottle cask strength (59.3%) 25 year old. Superb, both of them, although rather unique due to age differences.

I have an independent bottler's Caol Ila cask strength (15 years old, Wilson & Morgan) that's just lovely. No Caol Islas are regularly available where I live, so I don't have much to compare it with.
