Favorite Blends?

First time post from a some-time lurker:

I've got half a dozen or so single malts in the liquor cabinet, but I enjoy Pinch for my everyday drink. I'd like to keep another blend to put out for the enjoyment of guests, and am open to suggestion as to what to buy.

Pinch has a very pronounced taste and I think maybe it would be good also to have something a bit subtler.

Your thoughts, o knowledgeable whiskyphiles?

TIA, Howard

Famous Grouse, White Horse. Neither are very expensive.

My budget blend these days is Grant's Family Reserve. There's a sherry cask variation out as well. It's not something to wax poetic over, but a solid every-day drink.

Slightly pricier blend, I'm quite fond of Johnny Walker Black.

I quite like Black Bottle - I believe it contains all the Islay malts - or a good number of them. It seems nicely balanced.

Chivas is drinkable.

Grants gets my everyday vote as well (just finishing tonight's). Islay Mist is the Rolls Royce of blendeds IMHO, but slightly rarer than rocking horse poo. They'd have to be really good friends to get Islay Mist. Waitrose Single Malt is worth trying if you're in the UK - not too expensive and quite drinkable - again IMHO.

Famous Grouse has a permanent place on my shelf. I liked Gordon Highlanders, though I've not bought a bottle. I'll second the motion on Te Bheag, lovely stuff.

I've not tried Pinch, but I recall a friend in Toronto has one on his shelf. Have to convince him that it's not just for show, and open it next time I'm there.

Never cared for Johnny Walker Red or Black, but then I don't care for Cardhu or Talisker. Johnny Walker Blue, however, is a wonderfully balanced whisky, with just a little of everything. More expensive though.

Doug.
