Does anybody else here have pictures posted of their collectiions as modest or extensive as they may be?

For budgetary reasons, I keep only six to 10 malts around at a time. And they're not a pretty picture. But just to keep the conversation going, here's the collection of Bushido, aka Professor Malt, a former resident expert in this group:

That's what I came back with from Scotland this year.

So what is that Cu Dubh stuff like? From the sparse google results I got, it seems to be a successor to the Loch Dhu "black" whisky, and while some people said they actually liked that, it also elicited some of the finest denunciations in the history of tasting notes.

I've never laid eyes on the stuff, but I was once inspired to collect some impressions. F'rinstance:

The whole collection:

Loch Dhu was a very...let's say 'distinct' whisky. It had very strong aniseed/treacle overtones that I personally found distasteful. Cu Dubh is less extreme but still contains overtones of the same.

Heh :-)

This is one of our two cabinets. We don't collect; they're all for drinking.

Holy CROW! That's a nice collection!

BTW: "Welsh Whisky?" I see that it's not been cracked, so what made it stand out enough for you to purchase?

I'm Welsh. 8;)

But it's not Penderyn, it's the old Prince of Wales, which was distilled in Scotland.

All the bottles on that top shelf have been cracked, including the Welsh. It's not bad, also not very complex. Minimally acceptable, I would say.

I was comp'd 2 10cl bottles of Pendaryn. To me it was almost minimally acceptable, below Clan NcGregor supermarket blend. One of them remains unopened.

My poor selection is less than 20 bottles. Only one is unopened. That's The Glenliver Cellar Collection French Oak Finish 18 year old, 1983, bottled in 2003 at 46%. My friend turns 80 on 1 January and I'm hoping he comes over to share some with me.

Merry Christmas & Happy Hogmanay to all!

OOf. I've tried Clan McGregor. I can see why, if rail-Scotch is all someone has tried, they'd say they don't like Scotch.

I find it adequate for cooking stews, soups and broths, but not for mincemeat, where I like The Glenlivet 12, or Hot Toddy, where the Aberlour a'bunadh is outstanding. All ingredients subject to change without notice.

Great collection!!! You are truly a wealthy man. Keep socking it away while you can!

Is the Mr Hankey blend for drinking also? I hear it's kinda shitty.

Hey, hey, it's almost the holidays. Bad mouthing Mr. Hankey is always bad policy, but especially this time of year.

And he really doesn't drink much at all...

True, but when exposed to the elements he tends to dry out, which is bad for his health. I suppose you could use him to cork one of the bottles ... perhaps Famous Grouse if you have any.
