I stopped by my little local shop out here in the edge of the Missouri Ozarks to check the single malt selection while waiting for a prescription to be filled. Lots of shelf space for whiskey (nothing uncommon), but very little for whisky. The obligatory Glenlivet 12 was there, along with some blended malts that I haven't tried in years (perhaps I should again?), and a lone bottle of Speyside 10 yr. Now I thought I recalled that Speyside 10 yr. has a MJ rating in the low 70's, and I had seen it several times in cheap liquor stores. There was a single bottle in the metal cylinder, and I turned to go, unimpressed with the total lack of selection. My gaze chanced to catch the price sticker of under $20US which is an unheard of price for any single malt, so I thought I'd take it home to clean the fireplace glass and dissolve fingernail polish.
Poured a dram and found honey with very slight hints of citrus in the nose. Not the best Highland malt I've ever had, but very respectable for a single that sold for less than 2/3 of Dalmore 12 yr.
