Hi 'R',

Both versions (sherry and bourbon) were part of our 2003 malt maniacs awards, and the sherried one (bottled 2002) was the absolute winner. The bourbon version (bottled 2003) was more austere, and less consensual.

I'd say if it's the 'sherry' (check the label), don't hesitate one single second.

I had the 2002 Talisker 20yo cask strength in a pub in Pitlochry. They didn't have it registered on the till, so I paid the same as the standard 10yo costs - a steal, literally.

It's great. It's got all the flavours you want from a Talisker and it goes on and on. So I can recommend it highly. The main difference is the sweetness from the sherrycasks, but it blends beautifully with the peak and salt. Just a wee warning, this is an highly sippable whisky, even without water. I've seen it in Britain for as low as £81.90 (2003-bottling).

Take care, if it's the 2003 bottling, it's the 100% bourbon version you saw. Very different from the 100% sherry, 2002 version.
