I don't see my Tomatin 10 43% in there. I bought it last week for $19.99. It is the color of gravy and tastes like it has been aged in red vermouth barrels, if there is such a thing. I'm glad to find out it's not artificially colored!

Hope that's brown gravy! I had a chickenfried steak for lunch today... with cream gravy. That would make a scary whisky!

It possible that German labeling is not a great indicator of the use of spirit caramel. Perhaps bottlers will include it on the label if they MIGHT use spirit caramel. So many (or in some cases most) bottlings might have no spirit caramel. They may have it listed on the label in case there is a light "vatting" that needs a little caramel to bring it in line with brand color standards.
On the other hand, it is hard for me to believe that Springbank OBs have caramel added at all. They have been so traditional in avoiding chill filtration and abv less than 46%. Heck, their expressions are so inconsistent in terms of color, what difference would it make!
