Enrique Foster Malbec Reserva 2006 Review

Enrique Foster Reserva 2006 Malbec $22-$24 on Wine-searcher. Keeper. Phenomenal Value.

Jet black with nice purpling reflections and orange tints.

Very natural aroma—like dirt, rocks, and minerals. A bit of frostiness to it, too. Smoke is also in the aroma.

Wow! The taste is fantastic! Bitter, austere, with a heavy mineral taster. Strong body, with a direct, in-your-face quality that is refreshing for people who love strong wines (like myself). Lovely smokiness to it—like burnt leather on tires (trust me, tastes better than it sounds). Other overtones include raisins and plums, though they are subtle. The spicy, smoky finish only accentuates and really culminates all these flavors. Burns, too, with a nice dose of acidity. Very earthy and spicy, to such a degree that this will overpower most palates.

9.1-9.2/10. More of a 9.3-9.4 for the value.
