Josef Pöckl, one of the greatest Austrian red wine makers, has died today. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer for years - and finally lost the battle. Josef "Pepsch" Pöckl, born in 1951, was in his 60th year ...



All our thoughts are with his family.

No problem: Josef's son René has been making the wines since vintage 2001 (under the guidance of his father, of course), and Josef's widow, Theresia, really is quite strong handling the commercial side of the estate.

Had a bottle of his "Admiral", vintage 2000 - a Zweigelt-based red blend -, Friday & Saturday, and I really enjoyed it!
