Morlet Chardonnay and 1990 Bordeaux

Back in Ohio for a few days so I met a friend for dinner and shared a couple of bottles. We started with his offering of a bottle of Luc Morlet's 2007 Morlet Family Sonoma Chardonnay Coup de Couer. This is a powerful yet tasty style of Chardonnay with great balance. Ripe fruit aromas of fresh lemons, a little exotic fruit and almonds. Full throttle on the palate with long rich finish. Needs big food but so well balanced and delicious that I could have drank it all night. I brought a 1990 Chateau Gruaud Larose from my cellar. Medium red in the glass with perfectly clear rim. Decanted for an hour (could have used a bit more time) Plenty of green bell pepper notes on the nose with plum and cedar. Medium weight on the palate. More plum and raspberry than cassis though in time it seemed to gaion weight and more black fruit character. Nice acidity and well resolved tannins on the finish. ready to drink but should hold for a while.
