Tuesday was chicken provencal, with broccoli and couscous, and the 2005 Vis soux/Chermette "Poncie" Fleurie, Velvety mouthfeel, lush black cherry and p lum fruit, smoke and cocoa. No tannin left, balanced acids, very good lengt h. Yes, there is a reason not to drink Beaujolais on release. I'm sure this can go farther but I see no reason to. Will get to my other bottle soon an d hope it's as good as this one. A-
Wednesday skate grenobloise with brussels sprouts, wine was the 2008 Cazin/ Petit Chambord Cour-Cheverny. Romorantin always reminds me of Chenin Blanc, and indeed there are wax & wool notes here, but dominant is lemon fruit th at differentiates ir from CB. Fairly full, quite crisp, quite tasty. B+
Last night chicken with preserved lemons, brown rice, and some leftover veg etables; wine was the 2005 Montevertine Pian del Ciampolo. I'm no longer bu ying Montevertine but that's no reason not to drink those I own. Fairly cla ssic aged Chianti profile, dried cherry and black cherry with some saddle l eather and rose notes. With some air it takes on a slight ashtray/oxidation note, but faint. Drink up. B/B+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a p arty where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivi ty, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
