TN: d'Orschwihr Gewurtztraminer 1999

Chateau d'Orschwihr Gewurztraminer Bollenberg

1999 $10/375ml

Full expressive nose rich with typical rose and lychee Gewurztraminer notes. Very heady and unctuous "Botrytis like" overtone to the nose. Medium amber and viscous in the glass, actually a little darker than I would have expected. Upfront taste of rich candied fruits, full body and alcohol (13.8%) with a full rich and dry finish. Good wine.

It was unusual in the sense that everything about ti made me think that I was drinking a dessert style wine, but the finish was completely dry. It worked nicely with Seared Scallops with Spaghetti Squash, Preserved Meyer Lemon, Coriander and Thai Basil.

My first experience with a 5 years old Gewurztraminer., and soon looking for another!
