Friday we had a late dinner on the patio, joined by David and his girlfriend. Lemony chiclen schnitzel over herb salad with an anchovy vinaigrette, plus roasted root veggies (cool day!). We served a red and white to fit all preferences
2006 Jadot "Folatieres" Puligny-Montrachet 1er Fat, full, sweet. There's enough acidity (just enough) to keep from flabbiness, sweet peaches and pears, lemon, some oak, toast. There's just enough mineral tones to make it of its place, but this is more Chardonnay than Folatieres overall. Big lush white Burg, not sure if I'd hold for oak to integrate or just drink as is. Quite tasty, but not a value to me ($60) B2008 Clos de la Roilette (Coudert) Fleurie Wow, get more of this. Beautiful red fruit- cherry, no raspberry, no cranberry, no strawberry, wait it is cherry- maybe black cherry..... Fruit driven, but with clean bright acidity, some damp earth, flowers. Nice length, holds up very well overnight. What I want in cru Beaujolais. B++
So I got a Food & Wine subscription using miles on an airline I never fly, as it's expiring ignored $30 dollar renewal offer, then $20 offer. But when $12 annual offer came I asked Betsy are these worth $1 each? We sent a check, and this month we got our money's worth. New issue came today, Betsy found several recipes she wanted to try. Total winner recipe for angel hair with mussels and squid (from Michael White of Marea/Convivio/Alto fame), suggested wine was Friulano, so while picking up some wines today got the (no vintage shown I can see ) Venica Friulano (Collio). Floral nose, sweet pear fruit with a little nutty/almond note. Easy going wine, good pairing with the pasta, but not something I'd seek out, but decent at about $16. B-
