This has been a very wet Spring in Maryland. Three years ago, I planted some Traminette and Foch vines in hopes of making some interesting blends with the native Concords and Delawares.
As is usually the case with animals, the Japanese beetles know what is most valuable to me and have been eating the leaves off my Traminette and Foch vines while ignoring the older, native vines. Although I've been spraying regularly, half of the Traminette leaves are strictly lace at this point. Plus the berries have black rot. I might still get some yield from the Foch, if I'm lucky.
At least it looks like a good year for elderberries.
