Mr. Flowerpot,
Here's a company that sells glass demijohns. I"m not affiliated with this company, but am a satisfied customer.
Robert
Thankyou for the link Robert but unfortunately I'm in the UK. Thanks all the same :o) Miss flowerpot
So am I, and now the ones that I have been given are not sufifcient!
Our local home-brew store (yes we still have one) in Reading still sells them but the ones they stock are quite thin and crack easily (I've managed to crack several and I don't know how, as opposed to the traditional two-handled ones which are quite robust); I think they're just meant for short-term beer storage.
You could try advertising in the paper, or go to car boot sales. Most companies that sell demijohns won't send them through the post - it's expensive and they can break.
Where are you, exactly? You might be near a place that sells them, or even a company that makes glassware for chemicals - I KNOW there's one in Stone (Staffs).
Most people don't recommend plasctc because of the taint and possibility of oxygen getting through. I think they'd be difficult to clean, too.

PS The thinnish, single handled ons CAN be used,at a pinch, but, as I said, they ARE fragile.
