I've read the directions on clorox anywhere hard surface cleaner, and wondered about it's effectiveness as a sanitizer.
Anyone have feedback?

Works for me.
Oops...I didn't read this closely enough the first time around. Clorox "Anywhere"? I haven't seen this before. Disregard the previous response, I was talking about plain Clorox.
Boys I screwed up two batches of otherwise good homebrew with clorox ( didn't get it rinsed out good enough), since then I have switched to Iodophor, and I use an off brand of oxyclean to clean up with and haven't had a problem since. Man with than oxyclean stuff I don't even have to scrub. the carboy comes out looking brand new. I do still wash with a bit of dishwashing soap after the oxy , it helps to get that out and then rinse and rinse and maybe agian too.
From what I read...
The Clorox Anywhere Hard Surface Cleaner is strong enough to kill germs, if the surface is exposed to it for 2 mins. Also, weak enough not to be wiped off, even from food surfaces.
Now that is the advertisement, so I thought it might be an easy bleach mixture for santizing buckets, and less likely to ruin rugs and clothes and make the Wifey very angry. This is why I asked.

Tom,
You could make a similar product much cheaper by just diluting the bleach to a 30% solution and adding a little soap. Clorox Anywhere - well maybe the same - I was thinking of there Clorox Clean Up Product. However, IMHO I would think that its ability to do that kind of damage to your carpet is an indication of what it would do to germs and dirt. Re the oxyclean - you can put a few drops of bleach in some red coolaid and see a color change. With oxyclean, it takes much longer if at all. However, Oxyclean may be a good soap. When I use it in the was I notice it makes suds. Confused? You can buy other disinfectants that will not bleach - Quaternary disinfectants like ammonia will work, but I'm not all that impressed by them. Our microbiology dept uses 30% bleach so that is what I stick with.
We use Iodophor in the medical field. I didn't realize it was availible to general use as a disinfectant. Do you have a website where you obtain it? I wonder if the patients can get it cheaper there then from the medical supply houses.
thanks eVe
You can get Ido at your local "Feed 'n' Seed" store. Or a vet supply house. If you're going to use it for home brewing, make sure it dowsn't have lanolin as an ingredent.

I've never used the hard surface cleaner. However, I have used clorox bleach as my sanitizer for the last 3 years. I mix 2 ounces with one gallon of water. I rinse 3 times. I would never go back to any type of expensive sanitizer when clorox does such a great job.
