Wine Legal to Buy over The Net Now

The U.S. Supreme said today that it's legal for everyone in the U.S. to buy wine over the internet. States have no right to band internet wine sells.

You think other alcoholic drinks like whisky could be next? I know in my state it's prohibited for online stores to ship whisky here. Maybe that will change in the near future?

What's the problem anyway? Just force the delivery companies like UPS or Fed Ex to demand to see proof of age with a photo ID. Heck, I would even be willing to pay an extra tax for this. It's not like I'm going to buy everyday whisky off the net. I can get Jack Daniels, Elijah Craig bourbon, or Highland Park 12 in a liquor store. If I buy off the net it's because the local stores do not have the scotch or bourbon I want. I'm willing to pay a premium price for it. I'm willing to pay a premium tax too.

Hopefully I can finally order some hard to find scotch off the net in the near future.

What the courts said today is that the states cannot discriminate in how they sell wines (only at his time) via the internet. If they are going to allow the "in-state" distributors to do it in there respective state, then they have to allow all parties to do it. Now the 25 states (I think that's they number) that have such laws have to decide on which way to go. Either ban them all or allow them all to sell wines. It will be interesting to see which way they go. The distribution companies that control the distribution of alcohol in each state will be pushing for the ban, I'd guess, while the lawmakers will want the tax revenue. The big question is how will they collect the tax if someone from outside the state ships wine into the state. Who is responsible for collecting the tax and how will they do it. The wine distributor wont do it (unless they ship in their own state, of course). They could just rely on the individual to send the tax check in, of course (in your dreams). At any rate I think this is a long time coming, and I for one am happy it is happening.

I do think this is going to open the door to all alcohol being shipped and that is a good thing because there is a lot of Single Malts that are reasonable hard to find in my state (Florida) without a lot of nagging of the local store and thus the distributor.
