Chocolate flavor in stout is not unusual.

Yep, brewers -- Young's, Rogue, Boston Beer Company, etc. -- have been making chocolate beers for years. My favorite chocolate beer is Founders Breakfast Stout, which also has coffee.

I'm not at all surprised and i'm sure the combination would work well, although i've never had one. I've had ginger porter, chicory and coffee stout, ale with raisins among other flavored beers and enjoyed the ones i've tried.

I've drank a chocolate stout before and it was awful. I hope they have better luck. My only really happy experience with a flavoured beer was the Pumpkin Ale a local brewpub makes. It tastes like pumpkin pie, and english pale at the same time. It's heavenly.

Well a heck of a lot of stouts have a chocolate flavor and contain no chocolate but rather chocolate malt which is a highly kilned malt that can lend a chocolate flavor.
