Not Quite Willing to Give Up on Redhook Double Black Stout

I am unwilling to face reality. I cannot believe that there really does not exist at least one more bottle of this beer. If only I had known that it was going to be discontinued, I would have filled my basement with it! --If only I had a basement! Emails containing either good leads or simple commiseration would be much appreciated (it is rare that I am blessed with the time to read the newsgroup). Thanks to all.

Maybe the question should be, what is the best remaining stout? I like Sierra Nevada Stout, but don't know how widely it's distributed. This beer was inconsistent with Redhook's policy to follow the German Purity Laws and they rightly dumped it. A good stout is supposed to taste a bit like coffee not come mixed with real coffee! They also could have done better than Starbucks, that cheap coffee roasted to deception.

Redhood Double Black was never on my Best Stout list, but my favorite stouts in the 5 - 7% ABV range are Ipswich Oatmeal Stout and Rogue Shakespeare.

I think Ipswich Oatmeal Stout is the very balls.

I love the stuff. It's my favorite stout, possibly my favorite beer (though the Sierra Nevada Celebration I just had was damn good).

You make some sense Don: but then you come up with 100% pure dribble like: "They also could have done better than Starbucks, that cheap coffee roasted to deception." You lose all credibility here! If you don't like Starbucks fine... but laying down your crap about it just shows how shallow you are.

Not an avid Stout drinker as it sometimes gives me tummy probs... however, I had a couple pints of Boston Beers Peanut Butter stout this past weekend and loved it. Thought I'm sure I'll get hammered by the purists here, there's still a place for different favored stouts.

Says who? If he doesn't like Starbucks, why shouldn't he say so?

Starbucks is fine if you like charcoal in your coffee. I can't stand the stuff and stand by what I wrote. I'd say opinions on coffee are just as valid as opinions on beer, even in this NG!

The "Starbucks Roast" which is the minimal roast level of all their coffees borders closely to the darker/ espresso roast end of the spectrum which tends to introduce alot of carbon (Charcoal is almost completely carbon) creating that strong bitter flavor you find especially at Starbucks, anyone who can drink a Starbucks brewed coffee black, either smokes, or has done something to destroy their tastebuds long ago.

Of course you can express your opinion here or anywhere... that's not the issue: it's your statement about it being "cheap coffee roasted to deception." That's a bunch of crap. Starbucks seeks out and uses only the finest coffee in the world. If you don't like it fine, but at least be accurate in what you say.

Do you work for Starbucks? If it's expensive, why does it taste like the pot was scorched? I also noticed that you showed up on this NG only when Starbucks was mentioned. It doesn't make your motives very credible. When did you post on alt.beer before? Are you what I refer to as a USENET opportunity spammer? Not really a question for you highcastle, but the others on this NG.

So if he would have said "Starbucks is over-priced coffee that has been ruined by over-roasting," that would have been okay? You're nit-picking, buddy.

My apologies. I see in the archives you posted on Sept 16 on imported Red Stripe beer from Jamaica:

I concur with the last statement.

I owe you no answers so think what you will. And I've participated and contributed to the ng for years. I'm glad there are few of your type here, that's for sure.

OK. So I'm nitpicking.... sometimes I get that way, when something hits me wrongly. Let's call a truce and have a cold one.

Done. Wish there were more reasonable solutions to USENET arguments like this one.

I'm not getting involved in the little Starbucks pissing match, but I do have a request: Can you set your reader so that it breaks at 80 characters per line? Your posts are hard to read.

I have OE quote fix set at 72, but I've found that it intermittently fails. It never sets the margins until after I send. It appears to be working now, but let's see.
