The game is afoot!!

Yessiree sports fans, this year's Bigfoot is loose and lurking in liquor stores everywhere. I just bagged my first sixer. One guess what I'll be drinking tonight and game day. Cheers. :)

Everywhere? That's not what I've been reading on the beer groups or experiencing in NJ- altho' I didn't hit the stores this past week. What state are you in?

[And I don't think it'll hit the liquor stores at all in a number of states, you know, like the ones where beer isn't sold in liquor stores (PA, NY...). ]

A six-pack? That's it?

I always go for the case (and it's discount), and, if necessary, another in a few months if the need arises (so I have at least 12 for cellaring).

I'm sure it won't show up here in Casper. It did one year and sold out quickly(hint) but that was it. If I want some, I have to go to Colorado...

Not everywhere. I looked for some yesterday with no luck. I had to console myself with a six of the 2006. Sometimes life is hard. :-)\

Well, you inspired me to go out hunting for some Bigfoot today (figured I could pick up some Troegs Nugget Nectar, too, since I knew that was in state). Now, usually, I avoid shopping on the weekend and when I hit the liquor store I knew something was up- the damn "game". Place was too crowded for casual browsing (I love the people who stare at all the beers behind the cooler doors and then notice them in line later with a six of Corona) *but* I did find some Bigfoot 2007but they only had loose six packs left, so a case purchase'll have to wait until later.

What was surprising was seeing Sierra Nevada IPA also on the shelf. Now, I knew they made an IPA but thought it was a draft-only product- and sure enough, even their website doesn't list a bottled IPA. More nice stuff from S-N.

Oh man Bigfoot 2007 kicked my ass! I had it on tap over the weekend and I must say that it is INCREDIBLY hoppy this year - over the top madness.

I haven't had draft, yet. I notice the '07 bottled is a tad bit hoppier and noticably less sweet than previous years.

Well what do you know....I scored a case of Bigfoot here in Casper and it was just under $50 including tax(5%). Sipping on the first bottle(from glass natch) and it tastes very malty and very hoppy. Great stuff as cold as it is(I couldn't wait for it too warm up) but wait until it warms up a bit...:^)

The sight of bottled SN IPA stunned me last year. Great label and a delicious beer. I guess I'd better get hunting, because it didn't last long.

I've heard (unsubstantiated) Celebration Ale was originally sold with an IPA label. It's been judged as one:

It certainly meets my preferences for IPAs and I like it better than the new IPA.

It suspect that new bottled IPA may have been a marketing test. I haven't seen it since they dumped a big one-time load on a local supermarket and it's still listed only as a specialty draft on SNs website.

Whenever the subject of Ballantine IPA comes up, I often mention that Celebration and Bigfoot will often remind me BIPA - sort of a big and little brother of same and I often mix the two to get a more accurate "nostalgia" flavor. So, I was surprised to the the SN IPA used a very similar label icon to the one that was featured in much BIPA POS material, and, eventually (once a Falstaff product) on the label itself:

(as noted below, SN IPA isn't featured on their website- so this is a retailer's display- but you can zoom in pretty well on it).

I guess I'd better get hunting, because it didn't

Yes, surprised to see that it's "vintage" dated- neck label says "2007".

I have an older design of the SNCA label from the early 80's, but it has no IPA designation.

The stuff we just got in NJ has a Jan. 5th, '07 bottling date. It does seem odd that a company with two much in demand winter seasonals would come out with another one in between the other two...

I've not seen it again in the supermarket SN typically caters to, hereabouts, but I notice the area's biggest beer retailer carries it. It appears they couldn't get a current promo pic, though. Guess what they used! ;)

Yeah, I've argued that Celebration Ale is an IPA, albeit one Roger Protz would deem dark for the style. But I don't remember CA ever being labelled by SN as an IPA, and I've been drinking it since the

80s.

Also, SN's former spring seasonal, Pale Bock, is missed by beergeeks in its bottled form.
