Black Sheep far from home?

I just read a thing on US-based beer site beeradvocate.com the headline of which was "The Black Sheep Brewing Company to brew at 34 Depot Street - Pittsfield, MA" which made me think, oh right, Black Sheep are getting a US brewery to contract brew their beers for them. Apparently not, it's just a brewpub intending to set up using the name. I replied to the site as Black Sheep beers are sold in the US.

I hope it's just a genuine mistake, and that they simply change the name. The brewer/owners are from Victory Brewing (Downington, Pennsylvania, of HopDevil fame) so they should brew some excellent beers, it just should be under another name IMO. cheers MikeMcG from

According to some fellow Pennsylvania BeerAdvocate.com members, Victory Brewing is losing: Bill Heton, Assistant Head Brewer, and Kristine Bump, Brewer. Sad news for Victory, but good news for Western Massachusetts as the two are opening a new establishment located at the home of the former The Fighting Parson Brewpub at 34 Depot Street in Pittsfield, MA.

Word is that they'll be brewing on a 5-bbl Pugsley system, and hope to be brewing by next month, and opening their doors by May or June 2005. The name of the place: "The Black Sheep Brewing Company."
