Branch brews at beer festivals

One of our members said he had been to several beer festivals where the local CAMRA branch had brewed their own festival special. Anyone here done this - and any feedback?

Whitehaven branch are doing this next month, for the Whitehaven festival

. We are doing it jointly with the Whitehaven Rugby players, who are celebrating great success this year ... top of the league with one more match to go. We are going to the Loweswater brewery at the Kirkstile Inn, where Matt Webster is going to talk us through it.

Any advice or pitfalls? I have already been interviewed on local radio about it so it seems to be getting us extra publicity, though they did ask the rugby coach about beer bellies, beards and sandals, of which he didn't have any, but didn't ask me and I sport all three!! (almost - the beard is usually just a stray whisker or two!!!)

I've brewed once for York beer festival (at Easingwold Brewery) and it was a very enjoyable experience, especially for a home brewer who can play with the big kit for once. As far as I can recall it was the first beer to go, even though we'd doubled up on it, and it won the beer of the festival.

Are you sure they aren't second in the league (NL1) with six matches to go?

I brewed a 1040 beer for my birthday some years ago with the help of Cannon Royall Brewery. It was great fun and very rewarding. The beer was sold at Dodford Beer Festival.
