If you are looking for something to do this Bank Holiday weekend, and would like to support a good village pub, The Crown and Anchor at Ham is holding a beer festival.
Ham is about 4 miles south of Hungerford just off the A338. The Crown and Anchor is an excellent village pub that has had problems in the past - it was closed for a while, and has suffered from a succession of short-term tenants, but the new licensees are trying hard and need all the support they can get.
No definitive beer list is available, but there will around twenty different ales, including Arundel Lazy Willie, Brakspear Bee Sting, Butts Barbus and Moorhouse's Black Cat, plus local cider. The festival opens on Friday evening (28th) at 6 pm, and continues throughout the weekend until Monday evening, opening each day at 11 am. There will be a village pig roast on the Monday.
Further details can be obtained from the licencee, Dave John, on 01488 668242.
