diluting brandy and mixers

I have a bottle of brandy that never gets used. could anyone explain to a novice what 'mixers' one could use to dilute brandy down with please? so it will at least get used. perhaps a fruit juice of some kind or something like that? would any of the usual, tonic water or soda water or ginger ale work well? thanks for advice.

I tend to go along with the C18th essayist Charles Lamb, who said "Mixing brandy with water spoils two perfectly good drinks".

can that we right ? since I have recently learnt that drinking any alcohol greater than 30 percent by vol of alcohol anesthetises the tongue, and hence incapacitates the taste buds. hence adding water brings out the flavour.

I have to agree with you on this. I love whisky, but until water is added, the aroma and flavours are definitely lacking.
